Product advice and competition
Product advice
As a regulator, the APVMA does not provide advice on what products may suit user’s needs. Nor does the APVMA look at gaps in the market or find alternative products to manage pests, crops, animals and diseases.
?
Our role is to ensure agvet products are safe to use—and effective—when used according to the label directions.
Our role is to scientifically assess applications to approve agvet chemicals (active constituents) and register agvet products to ensure what is available in Australia is safe to use—and effective—when used according to the approved safety and use directions on the label.
All registered agvet products in Australia can be found on the chemicals database. If you can’t find a registered product on the database—or a product available under a minor-use permit—to suit your needs, we suggest you talk to your agvet chemical supplier, industry association or relevant state, territory or local government department.
Pricing and competition
The APVMA does not regulate agvet product pricing or competition in the market. The Agvet Code does not require applicants seek APVMA approval when setting prices, however applicants still need to be aware of their legal obligations under other relevant legislation—including the Competition and Consumer Act 2010.
In Australia, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) provides consumers, businesses and organisations with information about consumer rights, obligations and other information about pricing and competition. This includes information about how to report issues and suspected breaches of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010.
